A note from the Chair of Governors
As the Chair of Governors may I extend a very warm welcome to the website for River View Primary & Nursery School in Stapenhill, Burton Upon Trent. The school opened in September 2009, following the amalgamation of Short Street Infants and Waterside Junior schools. Prior to the amalgamation the school underwent considerable refurbishment and further development is currently taking place as it expands to a two form entry primary school.
River View caters for children between the ages of three and eleven years, some with a variety of special needs. It currently has approximately 20% of its children for whom English is an Additional Language, and approximately 50% who qualify for Free School Meals. As a result, it currently receives approximately £176,000 of Pupil Premium money, which is carefully used for the further development of the children.
At the last Ofsted inspection in March 2014, the school was judged to ‘Require Improvement’, but governors are pleased to note that HMI reported on 16th June, that “effective action is being taken to tackle the areas requiring improvement and plans are appropriately focused on rapidly bringing about improvement”.
The current head teacher, Mrs Bell, is retiring and governors are presently in the process of recruiting a replacement. I believe that strong school leadership depends on an effective working relationship between the head teacher and the chair and look forward to working closely with the new incumbent to achieve this. All of the staff are dedicated to the success of the school and are fully committed to the development of each individual child. They work well as a team and will also offer their strong support to the new head teacher.
We have a very committed Governing Body which is supportive and challenging, and closely monitors the school’s performance. Governors are keen to take the school forward and to achieve the success that all children deserve.
